Leading the upgrade to the DNV 2.7-1 standard throughout the Middle East

Cargostore Worldwide Trading Ltd has been supplying DNV 2.7-1 certified cargo carrying units (CCUs) to the Middle East since 2000 and within this time ADNOC clients have begun demanding all CCUs used in the Middle East adhere to the higher DNV 2.7-1 standard. This has therefore presented an opportunity for growth in the region for Cargostore as a current supplier of the DNV 2.7-1 standard with depots and networks already established in the region and to forge a larger market share within the region.

In March 2017, we were approached by an Abu Dhabi based sourcing company to supply small DNV 2.7-1 certified 4ft baskets for NDC Abu Dhabi, an ADNOC company.

NDC needed the baskets to ship daily operation supplies to over 50 oil rigs in the UAE. Previous baskets the client had been using were non DNV 2.7-1 standard and were unable to withstand the continuous handling on and off shore.

After listening to the client’s needs, Cargostore designed, manufactured, tested and certified, and delivered nine bespoke 4ft DNV baskets for the clients within a six week turnaround (from enquiry to delivery.)

Cargostore spearheaded the new DNV certified design specific to the client’s project and had them manufactured from our supplier based in Malaysia. To ensure the standard was adhered to and tight timeframe met, we sent our own third party inspector to the Malaysian facility to inspect the stock and ensure manufacturing quality.

Two designs were put forward to the client; one 850kg 4ft basket with a side door for easy loading and one 750kg 4ft basket without a side door. Both models came with a standard tarpaulin.

Cargostore’s operations department ensured the baskets were manufactured, re-certified, cleared for customs and delivered to the client within the tight six week turnaround. Our excellent reputation for reliability and efficiency enabled us to call on existing networks with suppliers throughout Malaysia and the Middle East to supply within the time frame.

Out of 16 baskets manufactured, nine were sold to the client with the remaining seven currently available for rental in the Middle East. We are now the promoting the basket thoughout Abu Dhabi and the Middle East with the potential for these baskets looking very positive for 2018. We are exhibiting the basket on our stand at the 2017 ADIPEC exhibition in Abu Dhabi in November.

Cargostore has also been promoting 10ft and 20ft reefers (refrigerated units) to Middle Eastern catering companies to replace hybrid non DNV 2.7-1 certified units which are currently being phased out. We have currently supplied 50 units to the UAE and additionally identified Saudi Arabia as a high growth market due to the Saudi/Amraco insistence on the new standard. Cargostore has moved the first five DNV 2.7-1 certified reefers into the Kingdom.
