About this Project

Cargostore, as one of the world’s fastest growing suppliers of DNV 2.7-1 CCU’s was approached by a client in June 2018 with an urgent request to supply a range of units for their work on the Nord Stream 2 project.

The Request

Our client requested a variety of containers ranging from our 20ft Reefers, to 3m³ Waste Skips, to our in-demand 20ft Closed CCU’s, delivered to Sassnitz, Germany within a two week time frame.

Utilising our strategic network of depots worldwide, we were able to source many of the containers from local depots, ensuring total delivery time was under 14 days. However, our closest 20ft Reefer units happened to be in the Middle East due to a large scale project, meaning we had a logistical challenge to contend with. Due to these units taking longer for delivery, we offered the client some of our 10ft Reefer units which were situated locally, at a discounted rate while they were waiting for the requested 20ft units.

What is Nord Stream 2?

Nord Stream 2 is an international infrastructure project, constructing a gas pipeline under the Baltic Sea. It will connect Ust-Luga, Russia, to Greifswald, Germany with a 1,200km pipeline. It will improve the delivery of gas from Russia’s largest gas reserves to meet European gas demand, with an efficient delivery system designed to carry up to 55 billion cubic metres of gas per year. The pipeline will take a short, efficient route under the Baltic sea, and detailed seabed surveys were undertaken to ensure the pipes did not disturb any sea beds or natural geology. The pipes are constructed between three different pipe mills across Russia and Germany, then transported to four strategic ports along the Baltic coast in an effort to reduce transport related environmental impacts.

The Outcome

Z

Our client was happy with the outcome as we managed to supply the containers in time, and provide an alternative to the Reefer Units which took longer to deliver.

By providing the alternative reefers, we did not waste the client precious time and money on mooring costs, but more importantly it did not delay the project.
